How To
Guide to Safe Computing

In a Windows Environment - XP - Vista - Millenium, it is always a safe bet to ensure that your anti-virus software is up to date.  A good choice is Avast.  It is found at http://avast.com. Its free and will keep your computer relatively clean.  If you are running a business and are doing company business through your computer, consider using a router.  Linksys makes particularily good ones.  It is a physical barrier between your computer and the Wide Area Network (WAN).  Envoking your firewall can also give you an added bit of protection from viruses or hackers investigating your computer.  Windows is not the most secure operating system.
Internet Browsers these days whether it is Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome are very secure however emails and emails with attachments can contain some unpleasant surprises.  At EverSure, we recommend never downloading emails onto your computer and that you virus scan attachments.  It is far safer to use Webmail or Google mail to download email.  That way email is never downloaded onto your computer and viruses can never even be detected.

Help With Steam Errors

Sometimes the Steam user forums are a pain.  So I will try to post solved errors here if I am able to find them.  If a message comes up "invalid steam user id ticket".  That usually means that your client is out of date and needs to be updated.  Close the program and reopen it.  If this still doesn't remove the error message then delete the "ClientRegistry.blob" file in your program files.  That should reset your account and allow you to login.

New Admin UAIO Plugin

A nice message for a change.  A new admin plugin is now developed to help with hackers and fun within the game.  There is even some new stuff that will prove to be very exciting.  The plugin is called UAIO.  This message is for current admins and soon to be admins.  This menu is very powerful and very easy to use.  First when you log in bind a key to uaio_menu.  So for instance in console type "bind f2 uaio_menu".  That will give you all the options your admin level entitles you to.  There are higher levels but that will depend on loyalty and duration played on the server.  If you have any questions private message me.

Also the piss plugin and sentry guns plugin are still on the server however they are paused.  I want make sure that the new admin plugin has no bugs first then we will see about the extension of configuration privileges.

Don't Reveal Steam Password

smile   Under no cirumstances should anyone reveal their Steam ID password.  The hackers are being defeated and they are resorting to stealing Valve accounts so they can HAX, HACK, HAXX their way to the top of stats lists.  Once you get on a server your Steam ID is exposed.  NEVER give your password or the money you spent on the game is GONE.smile

New Mods Defeating Hackers

The delicious mods that are now operating on the server have managed to thwart many a hacker.  While I was on a guy went 24 and 0 (he knows who he is) with the bots turned up.  I turned on knives only and cooked his ass with the flame thrower.  It was great hearing the scream.  Because I am sick and tired of the hackers ruining the game on my server that I pay for.  He stayed for a bit until the sentry guns started opening up on his ass. And his record fell because aimbot can't deal with sentry guns.  He left.

It is so difficult to prove that someone is hacking.  But there are indicators.  When experienced players like Postal Service tell me that the bots are too hard it means that the server is operating for top players.  When someone comes along and runs up the score at that level there has got to be some sort of hack taking place.  In the past week, 15 Steam ID's have been added to the ban list.  More than at any other time.  Hackers go from server to server exploiting the game.

I think what some of the hacks do is use aimbot or wall hack to run up their score on different servers and then say that they pwn because their name is always in the top 15.  So we'll run the mods for a while and then we can scale them back a bit when the hackers figure out they are not going to run up their scores here,  especially when they know the bots know how to build sentry guns.

New CAL League map added

smile   Thanks to "Postal Service" or also know in Quebec as "Service de Postal or Code Postal"  for suggesting de_cpl_strike and de_cpl_fire as a CAL map.  It runs well with the bots waypointing.  Suggestions on other CAL maps are welcome.  I tried running de_aztec2 but the bots just stood in the corner even with the waypointing.  If you do suggest a map please let us know where it can be acquired and there must be an associated waypoint file.  Remember that large maps make the server laggy and can crash the map.
